We slipped from 6th to 7th in week 5 of our UK B2B Tech PR AI Visibility Index. Clarity stays first. The bigger story this week is that every agency in the top six now appears on one page, Clarity's list of the best B2B tech PR agencies in the UK, and two more AI assistants started reading it.
What happened in week 5 of the index?
Every week we ask AI assistants the same 86 questions a buyer might ask when looking for a UK B2B tech PR agency, and we count which agencies they recommend. Clarity came first with 9.0% of the weighted share of mentions, followed by Hotwire on 8.1%, Brands2Life on 7.7% and Wildfire on 7.4%. Eskenzi PR rose from 8th to 5th and Babel PR from 7th to 6th. We were 7th on 4.5%, with Archetype just behind us.
Places 5 to 8 are close enough to swap from one week to the next. Five assistants count again this week, because Google AI Mode's answers didn't reach us in time from our data supplier.
Why did Eskenzi PR and Babel PR move up?
Both are on Clarity's list, which names eight agencies in order: Clarity, Brands2Life, Hotwire, Wildfire, Babel, Eskenzi PR, Firefly Communications and Archetype. That page was cited in 170 answers this week, about twice as many as in week 4, and it's now the most-cited page in the whole study.
As far as we can see, the page itself hasn't changed. What changed is who reads it. Grok cited it in 64 answers and Perplexity in 19, where neither had cited it once the week before. Grok still cites our category page in 64 answers too, so it now reads the two lists side by side, and it ranks Clarity first and us second.
ChatGPT cited Clarity's page a little less often, in 24 answers against 32, and still puts Clarity first. Once an assistant has formed a view of who leads a category, it seems to hold that view for a while even when it reads the source less.
Did moving our comparison table help?
Not this week. Last week we moved the comparison table to the top of our B2B tech PR page, so the answer comes before our pitch. ChatGPT named us in 31 answers, down from 37, and cited that page in 16, down from 22. Google AI Overviews named us in 7 answers, down from 16.
One week is too short to judge a page change, because the assistants don't all re-read a page as soon as it moves. We'll judge the change over the next few weeks.
There were small gains elsewhere. Gemini moved us from 12th to 9th, and our category page was still cited in 111 answers, close to last week's 116.
What does the view without our own website show?
Leave out the answers that were reading our own site and we're 10th, the same place as last week, after 58th in week 2 and 16th in week 3. Clarity is 9th on that measure.
The gap between the two views shows where each agency's position comes from. Most of Clarity's lead comes from answers that read its own page, as ours did in week 2. Hotwire, Brands2Life and Wildfire top the view without own sites, because articles and lists on other websites name them often. That kind of position takes longest to build and is the hardest to lose.
Which other pages are the assistants reading?
After the two agency lists, the most-cited pages were Startup Magazine's directory of PR agencies (41 answers), Archetype's own page on UK tech PR agencies (34) and our index page (32). Lists from TechRound, Silicon Canals, Tech Funding News and MVPR were each cited in 13 to 16 answers. None of those third-party lists mentions us.
That is where we're putting our effort now. We'll work to earn a place on the lists and directories the assistants already read, and we'll pitch the story of these five weeks to the trade titles that cover our industry. Our research on earned media in the age of AI answers shows how much of what the assistants cite comes from other people's websites.
What can other B2B companies take from this?
- Track citations on each assistant. Clarity's list has been live since early October, and two assistants only started reading it this week. One change in what an assistant reads can reorder a whole category.
- Being on someone else's list counts. Eskenzi PR and Babel PR rose this week because a list they appear on reached two more assistants.
- Give a page change time. We'll judge our new layout over three or four weeks, because a single week mixes our change with the assistants' own.
The full ranking and every week so far are on the index page. If you'd like to know which sources the assistants read in your own category, we can run a free AI visibility snapshot for you.
