Which B2B tech PR agencies do AI assistants recommend?

Every week we ask six AI assistants the questions a buyer might ask when looking for a UK B2B tech PR agency, and count which agencies they recommend. We publish it, it runs on our Agentcy platform, and we're in the table too. This week we came 2nd, up from 57th in our first run.

The short answer

In Week 1 (23 September 2026), the UK B2B tech PR agencies AI assistants named most were Archetype, Resonance, Hotwire, ITPR and CCgroup. The full ranking of 76 agencies, how we measure it and all 86 questions are below.

First, a declaration of interest. We're a UK B2B tech PR agency, so we're in this table, scored the same way as everyone else. It runs on Agentcy, the AI visibility platform we built. Six of the 83 questions might suit us better than most. We've listed them further down and kept them in, because buyers really do ask them. If we've got something wrong about your agency, tell us and we'll put it right.

The ranking · Week 1

Who the assistants name.

Each bar is an agency's share of all the mentions across the 5 assistants, with more weight given to the ones more people use. The thin line across each bar shows how far that number could move. The shorter the line, the surer we are.

Where we are

Resonance: 2nd of 76, and somewhere between 1st and 7th once you allow for the uncertainty. We were mentioned in 80 of the 415 answers: ChatGPT (40), Gemini (14), Google AI Mode (9), Perplexity (17). Grok didn't mention us at all. Count every assistant equally and we're 8th. Leave out the answers that were reading our own website and we're 45th. How we moved.

The figure after each name is the change in rank since the trial run. Could rank: the spread of positions an agency reached when we re-ran the numbers. All assistants equal: the share, and the rank, if every assistant counted the same. Not from own site: the rank if we leave out answers that were reading the agency's own website. Assistants: how many of the 5 mentioned the agency at least once. Agencies without a UK office aren't ranked, but you'll find them in the open data.

Week 1

What stood out.

Archetype leads, and we come second. Hotwire, ITPR and CCgroup make up the rest of the top five, as they did in our first run. Archetype is first on Gemini, Hotwire on Google AI Mode and Spreckley on Perplexity. On ChatGPT, which carries the most weight, we are. Count every assistant equally and Archetype still comes first, followed by Hotwire, CCgroup, Spreckley and Wildfire.

Our own rise is covered in full below. It also lifted some of the agencies on our list: most of Archetype’s ChatGPT mentions came in answers that were reading our category page, which describes it. Agencies that aren’t on that page didn’t get the same lift: The PHA Group came up in about as many ChatGPT answers as before, and Babel PR in fewer.

Crackle PR, the American agency with no UK office, still comes up often in answers to UK buyers. It isn’t ranked, because it has no UK presence. And Google AI Overviews is missing this week: its search provider failed on too many questions, even after a re-run, so we’ve left it out rather than score it as zero.

What moved us

From 57th to 2nd: what we did, and why it worked so fast.

We expected this to take months. It took a week, so we checked the numbers several different ways before publishing them. Here's what we changed, why it worked so quickly, and what it hasn't fixed yet.

What we did
  • Wrote one page that answers the buyer's question head on: which B2B tech PR agencies in the UK are worth considering, what each is good at, what it costs, and the questions people ask before they hire one. The list includes our competitors, described fairly.
  • Added a page for each sector we work in, and a page that sets out what B2B tech PR costs.
  • Gave the site one clear name in search results, "Resonance PR", and used the same short description of the company everywhere, so assistants stop confusing us with other companies called Resonance.
  • Fixed old links that led nowhere, and put the key facts of every case study where they're easy to find.
Why it worked so fast

ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Mode search the web before they answer. When a buyer asks which UK B2B tech PR agencies to consider, they go looking for a page that answers exactly that. Until last week there wasn't a good one from us. Now there is, and the assistants found it within days: in our first run they cited resonancecrowd.com in 2 answers, and this week in 116. The category page alone was cited in 81.

Almost every time an assistant named us this week, it had just read our site. It found a straight answer to the buyer's question, and passed it on. And ChatGPT, where most of the rise happened, gave the same answers to our check questions as the week before, so this isn't down to a model update.

What it shows

You don't have to wait months to show up in AI answers. For the assistants that search the web as they answer, a page built around the buyer's actual question can be picked up in days. It's what we tell clients. This is the first time we've tested it on ourselves, in public.

What it hasn't fixed

Our visibility now leans heavily on our own website. Leave out the answers that were reading it and we're 45th, much where we started. Count every assistant equally, rather than giving ChatGPT the most weight, and we're 8th. Grok didn't name us at all, and we couldn't measure Google's AI Overviews. Getting recommended by sources we don't control, like press coverage, reviews and other people's lists, takes longer. That's the work for the next few weeks, and the diary below will show whether it's paying off.

Why we're doing this

Buyers are asking AI for their shortlist.

When a tech company needed a PR agency, someone would search, read a couple of "best agencies" lists and ask around. Now more and more of them ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity for a shortlist, or read the AI answer at the top of Google. Those answers name names. Some agencies come up again and again, some once, and most not at all.

As far as we could tell, nobody was keeping track of who. That felt odd, given how many agencies, us included, now advise clients on exactly this. Agentcy has looked at 1.06 million sources that AI assistants cite for B2B brands. Only 3.4% were press coverage, and around six in ten were company websites. So a lot of what shapes a company's reputation now happens in places agencies don't usually look.

We've built a tool that does look, so we've turned it on our own industry. We fixed the questions before we started, published the method before the results, and we report our own position whatever it is.

Method

How it works.

The questions

86 questions, written the way buyers actually ask them, all about the UK. 12 ask who the leading agencies are. 15 ask who's best for a particular job, like a funding round, a product launch, a crisis or an acquisition. 12 ask about a sector or type of company, such as cybersecurity, fintech or a fast-growing scale-up. 6 ask how to choose an agency and what it costs, and 6 ask what other companies use. 12 are short searches of the kind people type into Google, and 20 are detailed briefs: a Manchester cybersecurity company raising a Series B, say, or a US software firm opening a London office. All 86 are listed below.

None of the questions mentions an agency by name. Three of them are checks: their answers shouldn't change from week to week, so if they do, we know the assistant itself has changed. That leaves 83 questions that count. The question set is locked, and any run that doesn't use exactly the same set is thrown out.

The assistants

The ChatGPT and Gemini apps, Google AI Mode, Google's AI Overviews, Perplexity and Grok, all asked from the UK. If an assistant fails on a run, we leave that run out rather than scoring it as zero.

Claude isn't in the list yet. We want to measure what people see in the apps themselves, and there's no practical way to ask the Claude app hundreds of questions a week. The Claude API gives different answers, so it isn't a fair stand-in. If that changes, we'll add Claude at the start of a new four-week edition, not halfway through one.

The maths

For each assistant, we work out each agency's share of all the mentions. Then we combine the six, giving more weight to the ones more people use (ChatGPT 4×, Gemini 2×, Google AI Mode 1×, Google AI Overviews 1×, Perplexity 0.5×, Grok 0.5×). We set those weights before the first run, and we'll only review them once a quarter, never in the middle of an edition. We also publish the ranking with every assistant counted equally, so you can see what difference the weighting makes.

We didn't start from a list of agencies. Every agency in the table is there because an assistant mentioned it. The ranges come from re-running the numbers 1,000 times on different mixes of the questions, which tells us how far one week's results can be trusted.

The questions

All 86 questions we ask.

Check questions (not scored)3

These three have answers that shouldn't change from one week to the next: the biggest PR networks, the big four accountancy firms and the main technology analyst firms. None of them is about B2B tech PR agencies, so they don't count towards the index. They're a control.

Every week we compare each assistant's answers to them with the week before and with our first run. If an assistant suddenly names a different set of firms, the assistant itself has changed, usually because its model has been updated. When that happens, we flag any movement on that assistant that week rather than report it as real.

The figures are the overlap between the firms an assistant named this week and the firms it named before, averaged across the three questions. If any one question falls below 50%, we count that assistant as changed. Firms are often listed in a different order or with one or two extras, so 100% is rare.

A word of caution

What one week can't tell you.

  • It's early. Each week is a single run. The first full edition will be based on four weeks of results, which will make the middle of the table much clearer. Until then, don't read too much into anything below the top eight.
  • The assistants change. When an AI company updates its model, answers can shift overnight. The check questions are there to spot that, and if it happens we'll say so rather than report it as real movement. This week: Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Perplexity changed, so read their movement with care.
  • The weighting is our call. That's why you can always see the ranking with every assistant counted equally, right beside it.
How we keep it honest

Seven rules we stick to.

  • We tell you who we are. Resonance publishes the index and is in it. Agentcy, which we built, does the measuring.
  • We set the rules first. The questions, the assistants, the maths and who gets included are fixed before each edition, and published before the results.
  • We checked the questions for bias towards us. Six of the 83 could suit us: AI search visibility, analyst relations, research-led PR, agencies outside London, and two about Manchester. They stay in because buyers ask them, and they'll never make up more than one in ten.
  • We didn't pick the competition. Every agency in the table is there because an assistant mentioned it.
  • This page doesn't count. If an assistant cites the index, it doesn't score for anyone, including us.
  • You can check our work. Every answer from every run is public, in the open data on Agentcy.
  • We'll fix mistakes. If we've got your agency's name wrong, mixed you up with someone else or missed you, we'll correct it and note the change.
Our own position

Where we started, and what we're doing about it.

We started from close to zero. The first time we ran the index, on 16 September 2026, the assistants mentioned us in 9 of 496 answers, and 2 of the 6 didn't mention us at all. We came 57th out of 76. That was an awkward result for an agency that helps clients get found in AI answers, and it's part of why we started this: we could see we weren't showing up, and we wanted to do something about it.

So we're doing for ourselves exactly what we'd do for a client: find out where we stand, fix what's holding us back, and check whether it worked. If we're telling clients we can improve how AI assistants see them, we ought to be able to do it for ourselves.

The one thing we won't touch is the method. Everything else is fair game. We're keeping a diary, below, of every change we make to how we show up online, week by week, next to where we ranked. If we climb, you'll be able to see what helped. If we don't, you'll see that too.

What we won't do

  • Change the questions, the assistants, the weights or the maths in the middle of an edition.
  • Pay to be mentioned, write our own reviews, or put up pages that exist only to trick an assistant.
  • Count it when an assistant cites this page.

What to expect

  • Ups and downs. Our first week showed a good page can be picked up in days, but it can drop out just as fast, and a model update can change the answers overnight.
  • A diary entry every week: what we changed, and what happened.
  • The same help for any agency that asks: its full breakdown, and the sources assistants use when they mention it.

What we changed between 16 and 23 September.

    • Wrote a page that answers the buyer's question directly: which B2B tech PR agencies in the UK are worth considering, what each is good at, what it costs, and the questions people ask before they hire one, with an honest list that includes our competitors.
    • Added seven sector pages, from cybersecurity and fintech to professional services, and a page that sets out what B2B tech PR costs.
    • Fixed thirteen old links that led nowhere, and retired out-of-date copies of our pages that Google still had on file.
    • Changed how our name appears in search results to "Resonance PR", because "Resonance" on its own is too common a word.
    • Put the key facts of every case study at the top, where they're easy to find, and added five new client stories.

What moved. We went from 57th to 2nd. ChatGPT named us in 40 of its 83 answers, up from 4. Perplexity went from 0 to 17, Gemini from 1 to 14, and Google AI Mode from 3 to 9. Grok didn't name us this week; it had once in the first run.

Almost all of it came from assistants reading our website. In the first run, ChatGPT cited resonancecrowd.com twice. This week the six assistants cited it in 116 answers, and the new category page alone in 81. When an assistant wasn't reading our site, it almost never named us: counting only those answers, we're 45th, much where we started. That's the next job.

Google AI Overviews isn't in this week's table. Its search provider failed on too many questions, even after a re-run, so it's left out rather than counted as zero.

Where we started. We ran the trial on 16 September 2026, the same day we started work on our own visibility, so it shows us before any of our changes could have been picked up. ChatGPT mentioned us four times, Google AI Mode three times, and Gemini and Grok once each. Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews didn't mention us at all.

Crackle PR, an American agency with no UK office, came up more often than we did. The problem was clearly ours to fix.

Questions

Questions about the index.

What is the UK B2B Tech PR AI Visibility Index?

It's a weekly check on which UK B2B tech PR agencies AI assistants recommend. Every week we ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Google's AI Overviews, Perplexity and Grok the same 86 questions a buyer might ask, and count every UK agency they mention. Resonance publishes it, and it runs on Agentcy, the platform we built.

Which B2B tech PR agency do AI assistants recommend most in the UK?

In the latest week (Week 1, 23 September 2026) the agencies mentioned most were Archetype, Resonance, Hotwire and ITPR. That's after giving more weight to the assistants more people use. Count every assistant the same and Archetype comes out on top. The top of the table is already fairly clear; the middle will take a few more weeks to settle.

How did Resonance move from 57th to 2nd so quickly?

We published a page that answers the buyer's question directly: which UK B2B tech PR agencies to consider, what each is good at and what it costs. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Mode search the web before they answer. They found the page within days and started quoting it. Almost all of our mentions came in answers that were reading our own site; leave those out and we'd be 45th, which is the next thing to work on.

Which agency does each AI assistant recommend most?

The agency each assistant named most often in Week 1 (23 September 2026): ChatGPT: Resonance; Gemini: Archetype; Google AI Mode: Hotwire; Perplexity: Spreckley; Grok: Deliberate PR. The assistants disagree with each other a lot, which is why the index combines them rather than trusting any one.

What questions do you ask the AI assistants?

86 questions, the same every week, written the way buyers ask them. 12 ask who leads, 15 ask who's best for a particular job, 12 ask about a sector or type of company, 6 ask how to choose and what it costs, 6 ask what other companies use, 12 are short Google-style searches and 20 are detailed briefs. The other 3 are check questions that aren't scored. All 86 are listed in full on this page.

How is the index measured?

We count how often each agency is mentioned on each assistant, as a share of all the mentions of UK agencies. Then we combine the six, giving more weight to the assistants more people use. We don't start from a list: an agency is in the table because an assistant mentioned it. The ranges on the chart show how much the numbers could shift with a slightly different set of questions.

How often is the index updated?

Every week, using exactly the same questions each time. After four weeks there's enough evidence to compare agencies in the middle of the table with some confidence.

Why is Resonance ranked in its own index?

Leaving ourselves out would have made it less useful and harder to trust. We're scored exactly like every other agency, we've said which questions might suit us, and we publish our position whatever it is. In Week 1 we were 2nd of 76.

Can an agency see its own results?

Yes. Ask us and we'll send your full breakdown: every question, every assistant. If we've got your name wrong, mixed you up with someone else or missed you, tell us and we'll fix it.

Want to see how the assistants describe you?

If your agency is in the table, we can send you the full breakdown, question by question and assistant by assistant. If you're a tech company, we can show you how the same six assistants talk about you and your competitors.
